Sketches by Cynthia Folio for Flute and Piano. From the composer: "I composed Sketches in 1985 and it was premiered at Texas Christian University by myself and pianist Paulo Alvarez. I gave the piece that title because I wrote it quickly. The introduction is a free cadenza for flute, accompanied in the piano by quartal harmonies (built mainly on stacks of Perfect Fourths). After the introduction, the meter shifts to a steady 11/8 (3+3+3+2), and becomes more chromatic."
