The Flanders Clarinet Quartet was founded in 1989 by four former students of the legendary Belgian clarinet virtuoso Walter Boeykens and in no time they found their way to the Belgian stages. To this date, they have performed over 450 concerts on three continents. Internationally they are in high demand, including performances and masterclasses in Ecuador, and they have been invited to Japan seven times.

The specific strenghth of the ensemble is their unrelenting drive for originality and the renewal of their medium, the clarinet quartet. The four members of the group are active in a broad variety of musical branches, inclucing the traditional clarinet repertoire, symphonic orchestra, opera, ballet, big band and musical theatre. All of these interests crystallise in the music of Flanders Clarinet Quartet, and especially in the way in which they bring their music to the audience. There is room for classical music, avant-garde, jazz, klezmer, latin, tango, improvisation, and more....

The traditional image of “4 clarinets behind a music stand” is banished as the group reaches out to their audience for feedback and involvement in the music. Nobody remains untouched by the astonishing virtuosity and the dynamic performances of Flanders Clarinet Quartet!
