Arteel, Freddy

Freddy Arteel is one of Belgium’s leading clarinettists. He was principal clarinet of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Antwerp (now: Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Flanders) for over 25 years and in 1977 joined the faculty of the Royal Conservatory of Ghent.

Mr. Arteel performs with the Belgian Clarinet Quartet and the Windquintet of Antwerp as well as with the Ensemble Contrasts.

Mr. Arteel is on the faculty of the Cours International de Musique in Morges, Switserland, the Musicfest in Aberystwyth, Wales, and the Chapel-Hill Chamber Music Workshops U.S.A. He was a faculty member and chamber music musician for the Saskatchewan Summer School for the Arts, Canada and has presented master classes at numerous universities in the United States. In 1993, Mr. Arteel was host, director and soloist for the International Clarinet Festival in Ghent attended by over 700 clarinettists from around the world.

Played as a soloist with the following orchestra’s: Antwerp Philharmonic, Belgian National Orchestra, Belgian Radio and TV symphonic en chamber orchestra, I Fiamingi chamber orchestra, Dutch Radio orchestra, L’orchestre de la Suise Romande Geneva, Slovak state Philharmonic.
