Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706) was a German composer, organist, and teacher who became one of the most important composers of the South German Baroque. His most famous work, the Canon in D Major, is built over a repeating eight-note bass pattern, above which three violins (in the original version) enter successively with an increasingly elaborate set of variations.
