Jean-Philippe Rameau - Tambourin from 'Deuxième Livre de pièces de clavecin', arranged for Flute Choir by Ervin Monroe. Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683-1764) was born in Dijon, France and played the harpsichord at the age of seven. It is said that he could sight-read almost any music put before him, despite his young age. Regarding this composition, in its original form, a Tambourin was an old provincial dance which featured a flute and a side drum. Often, the bass line for such a composition consisted of a repetitive single note, resounding the tonic, or dominant, chord of the composition.
