Aerie for Flute Choir by Catherine McMichael. Composed to celebrated the 30th Anniversary of the Trillium Flute Choir in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in honor of founder and director Julie Amen. From the composer: "In search of a theme, I started with birds. It’s a bit cliché to use flutes to make bird calls, so I had to avoid that. But I thought about families of birds and was reminded of images of the robins that make use of the nest right outside my studio window. Brood after brood has hatched from that nest. I looked in the thesaurus for other words besides nest… I wanted something a little snazzier… and found the word “Aerie”."
