Phyllis Avidan Louke - In the Garden for Two Flutes (or E-flat Flute and C Flute). From the composer: "In the Garden was commissioned by Linda Bailey as a duet for two Eb flutes. When I started composing this piece, my garden was just waking up in the early spring: the daffodils were starting to bloom, the clematis vines on our pergola were starting to grow, and the azalea by our front door was in full bloom. As I went out to admire the azalea, a little tree frog had taken up residence. I heard “ribbit” coming from the bush, which made me laugh. This composition celebrates these moments in my garden." Scored for two like flutes of any size. The E-flat Flute part may be used to play a duet with Flute 2. If you have two E-flat flutes for your duet, you can play off the Flute 1 and Flute 2 parts. In three movements: Twining Vines Reaching for the SkyLittle Frog in the Azalea, and Ode to the Pink Daffodils.

Instrumentation:

  • Flute 1 (or E-flat Flute, when playing with a C Flute)
  • Flute 2
