Benjamin Godard (1849-1895) was a French composer and teacher who studied at the Paris Conservatoire under the tutelage of notable composers such as Napoléon Henri Reber and Camille Saint-Saëns, in addition to violin studies with Henri Vieuxtemps. Godard was known for his compositions in various genres, including operas, symphonies, chamber music, and piano pieces. Although Godard's music was popular during his lifetime, it has somewhat fallen into obscurity in modern times, with only a few of his compositions still regularly performed. One of these such pieces is his Suite de Trois Morceaux, Op. 116, for flute and orchestra, though it is much more commonly performed in its reduction for flute and piano, presented here.
