From the editor: "Jules Demersseman (1833–1866) was a celebrated French flutist and composer who studied at the Paris Conservatoire with Jean-Louis Tulou, winning first prize in flute at just twelve years old. His Fantaisie on a Melody of Chopin, Op. 29 (Fantaisie sur la Marche funèbre de Chopin), written for flute and piano, takes its principal material from the famous Funeral March of Chopin’s Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor, Op. 35.
