Philippe Gaubert - Sicilienne for Flute and Piano, revised and edited by Ervin Monroe. Philippe Gaubert (1879–1941) was a distinguished French flutist, composer, conductor, and teacher who studied with the great flutist Paul Taffanel and eventually became professor of flute at the Paris Conservatoire and conductor of the Paris Opera.  His Sicilienne, composed in 1914 and arranged for flute and piano from a version for small orchestra, is one of his most enduring works and remains a staple of the flute repertoire.  The piece captures the graceful, gently swaying character suggested by its title, combining a lyrical flute melody with Gaubert's refined French harmonic language and elegant ornamentation.
