Franz Doppler - Airs Valaques, Op. 10 for Flute and Piano. Franz Doppler (1821–1883) was a celebrated Hungarian-Austrian flute virtuoso and composer whose music combines brilliant flute writing with the melodic character of Central and Eastern European folk traditions. Airs Valaques, Op. 10, first published in 1858, is a virtuosic fantasy based on Wallachian (Romanian) melodies, featuring an expressive theme, variations, a lyrical Adagio, and a spirited Allegro. The work remains one of Doppler’s most admired showpieces, demanding considerable technical skill while offering the flutist ample opportunity for colorful, dramatic, and lyrical expression.
