Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750) was a German composer and musician of the Baroque era whose extraordinary body of sacred and secular music has made him one of the most influential figures in Western classical music. “Sheep May Safely Graze” (Schafe können sicher weiden) comes from Bach’s 1713 secular cantata Was mir behagt, ist nur die muntre Jagd (“The Lively Hunt Is All My Heart’s Desire”), BWV 208, and is celebrated for its serene, pastoral melody and graceful accompaniment.
