Shaun Michael Guzman (b. 1985)
Shaun Michael Guzman is a dedicated and passionate private clarinet instructor, renowned for his commitment to shaping well-prepared and thoughtful musicians. With a deep connection to the music community, Shaun has cultivated a diverse range of talented students who have gone on to become band directors and private clarinet instructors themselves. He continues to inspire and educate through clinics at prominent conferences such as the Texas Music Educators Association and Texas Bandmasters Association, alongside his students.
In addition to his role as an educator, Shaun is an accomplished artist and arranger, recognized for his work with ALRY Publications, where he has been a published arranger for clarinet ensembles since 2016. His professional achievements reached new heights in 2025 when he became a Selmer Artist, further solidifying his commitment for education in the clarinet world. Shaun has been a D’Addario Woodwind Artist since 2014 and serves as a Method Clinician for the San Antonio and South Texas areas, contributing to the growth and development of woodwind education in the region.
Shaun’s influence extends beyond his private studio. He has created several clarinet ensembles within his studio, which have been actively performing since 2009, providing his students with unique opportunities to engage in performance and ensemble work. He is also an integral part of Prickly Pear Clarinet Ensemble, where he serves as bass clarinetist and President of its board. Under his leadership he continues the traditions before him from his predecessors, Prickly Pear has been showcased at the International Clarinet Association’s ClarinetFest since 2016 and featured as a performing ensemble at the Texas Music Educators Association since 2017.
An accomplished performer, Shaun has made significant contributions to various musical ensembles, including Alamo City Symphony Viva, University of Incarnate Word Orchestra, and Heart of Texas Concert Band. He has also performed several solos, including a memorable rendition of Mendelssohn’s Konzertstück, alongside his husband, Tyler Guzman. Beyond performing, Shaun plays a vital role in the administrative side of music organizations, serving as Event Coordinator, Music Librarian, and Wind Coordinator for Alamo City Arts, the umbrella organization for both Heart of Texas Concert Band and Alamo City Symphony Viva.
In addition to his extensive teaching, performance, and organizational contributions, Shaun is a co-owner and partner of Clarinet World, a premier destination for clarinet enthusiasts, located in San Antonio, Texas.
Shaun’s musical journey has been shaped by his studies with Dr. David Pino at Texas State University and Ruth Aguirre. His deep passion for music, commitment to excellence, and contributions to the clarinet community continue to impact the lives of musicians and audiences alike.
