Brabants, Wim
Wim Brabants studied at conservatories of Antwerp, Ghent, Brussels and The Hague, where he worked with teachers including Frans Vester and Barthold Kuijken.

From 1977 to 2015, he taught flute and chamber music at LUCA School of Arts, Campus Lemmens.

Brabants is founder and artistic director of the Baroque ensembles ‘Le Plaisir des Dames’ and ‘La Fonte Barocca’, and he also leads the pre-Romantic ensemble ‘Quadro Viegas’ (harp, flute, violin and violoncello on period instruments).

In 1989 he discovered three previously unknown sonatas for recorder and harpsichord by count Unico Wilhelm van Wassenaer Obdam. Since 2015 he has uncovered several works by Pierre Gabriel Buffardin, including a flute concerto in F minor.

From 1995 till 2012 he conducted his own symphonic orchestra called ‘The Belle Epoque Orchestra’, which was later renamed ‘Brabelio’.

Brabants is known for musicological research into forgotten Baroque repertoire, especially flute and recorder music, often locating manuscripts in European archives and preparing modern editions for performance.
