This work was created as part of a Composition Seminar I took in 2004 at the U of C with David Eagle. It was dedicated to Kathryn Ladano, This work has also been interpreted by Harry Sparnaay, Fernando Dominguez and Antonio Rosales. The material for this work was constructed using prepared piano and, several Mexican percussion instruments, which belong to the pre-hispanic period, such as the teponaztles (a hollowed trunk with two wedges to be stricken with drumsticks), and huesos de fraile (priest bones), which are actually seeds. The harmony and the melodic lines are based on the notes from the teponaztles and from a whirl xylophone, which is also included in the recording.
