Ludwig van Beethoven's rich and elaborate Finale from String Quintet, Opus 29, carries the nickname “The Storm.” Rough tremolo, quick scales, and stormy “fugati” symbolize the “windy” side of the Autumn season and can be brilliantly executed by flutes. The stormy passages are interrupted by cozy Vienna style “Ländler” intermezzi, reminiscent of of the Viennese tradition of drinking the young wine of the year (“Heurigen”) in rural taverns during November, singing together with accordion, or zither and fiddle.
