Violet Ridge for Flute and Piano by Dominic Valadez. From the composer: "Violet Ridge explores the duality of expressing my identity as a bisexual. The introduction's two-chord vamp and the middle section's bitonality are subtle nods to this, while the flute's very sweet and yearning melody is used to highlight feelings of having a desire to belong. At the end of the piece, both the flute and piano come to terms with these feelings, exemplifying the acceptance of intersectional identity and representing the 'Violet' of the title."
