Ulman - Four Ballroom Dances for Wind Quintet - CM241
Four Ballroom Dances by Barry Ulman for Wind Quintet. From the composer: "Four Ballroom Dances for Wind Quintet was inspired by a dance gig I played every Saturday night for about five years. We played all the standard styles of ballroom dancing, such as fox trots, waltzes, Latin styles, polkas, etc. This piece presents stylized versions of four of those styles: Cha-Cha, Waltz, Swing, and Samba. The title of the first movement, Cha-Ch-Cha, is misspelled on purpose on account of the time signature: 7/8—4/4, which means that there is a bar of 7/8 alternating with a bar of 4/4 throughout, resulting in a cha-cha that has a limp." In four movements: Cha-Ch-Cha, Waltz, Swing and Samba.
