Adolf Terschak (1832–1901) was an Austrian flutist and composer born in Prague who grew up in Hermannstadt, studied at the Vienna Conservatory, and pursued a remarkably extensive career as a touring flute virtuoso throughout Europe and Russia. He composed more than 200 works, many for flute and piano, and became particularly known for his virtuosic flute compositions. The Siren (La Sirène), Op. 12, is a caprice for flute and piano, and is among Terschak’s earliest compositions.
