Philippe Gaubert (1879–1941) was a distinguished French flutist, composer, conductor, and teacher who studied with the great flutist Paul Taffanel and eventually became professor of flute at the Paris Conservatoire and conductor of the Paris Opera. A Berceuse is a cradle song, a piece for piano or other instrument consisting of a melody with a lulling, rocking accompaniment.
