deLise - Songs Without Words for Flute and Harp - FH57
Louis Anthony deLise's Songs Without Words for Flute and Harp was written for flutist Joan Sparks and harpist Anne Sullivan and consists of four movements: Introduction, In Moments, Blissful Dancers, and For Cyd. From the composer: "my set of Songs Without Words are, in a very general way, composed in the style of the songs of the “Great American Songbook.” Those are the songs made popular in America and elsewhere during the 1940’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. While I do not adhere strictly to the formal structure of America’s famous pop songs, I do use the pop song forms, harmonic and melodic language as my starting points. The movements are unabashedly romantic, recalling the ballads of the genre, but also employ polychordal, quartal, and extended harmonies."
