Long - Celtic Contra Crush for Flute Choir - FC670
Celtic Contra Crush by Paige Dashner Long for Flute Choir (or Low Flute Choir). From the composer: "Celtic Contra Crush was composed for the gala closing concert of the 2025 National Flute Association Convention in Atlanta, GA. The premiere performance, directed by Paige Dashner Long, was an ensemble comprised entirely of contrabass flutes. There was not a single concert flute, alto flute or bass flute. Every flutist played a contrabass flute or a sub contrabass flute. This piece is also great for traditional flute choir or low flute choir, quartets and quintets, as described below. Beginning with a strong musical “gaoth” or Irish wind, listeners are transported to the mystical Emerald Isle of Ireland. Just as the weather changes quickly in Ireland, the musical mood quickly shifts to energetic Irish dances of reels and jigs. Welcome to an Irish session (an informal gathering of musicians of players and listeners)!" With flexible instrumentation, Celtic Contra Crush can be performed by flute choirs or by quartets/quintets of like instruments. So, a quartet or quintet of C flutes could perform or alternatively a quartet or quintet of instruments in G could perform, using the C instrument parts. Additionally, optional percussion parts are included.
