Alphons Diepenbrock composed this Hymne for Violin and Piano in 1898, subsequently publishing it with Uitgave A. A. Noske in 1905. It bears a dedication to Dutch violinist Louis Zimmerman, who was professor at the Royal Academy of Music (London, UK) from 1904 to 1911, eventually becoming concertmaster of the Concertgebouw orchestra in Amsterdam.

It should be noted that this edition for Violin and Piano predates the more often-played version for Violin and Orchestra, which was finally published in 1917 after many revisions. Thus, there are many differences between the two, and while similar, the violin and piano version should not be considered an exact piano reduction of the orchestral score.

This edition is a reprint of the original publication. Measure numbers have been added as well as rehearsal numbers which largely line up with the orchestra version, making this edition much more rehearsal friendly than any other version out there.
