On the Aether for Flute Choir by Jonathan Cohen, commissioned by the Prevailing Winds Flute Ensemble and premiered at the 2025 National Flute Association Annual Convention in Atlanta, Georgia. The first movement, An Ill Wind, is malevolent and foreboding. A slow whirlwind rises from the depths, then the piccolo floats with a suspicious delicacy that fails to hide the melancholy and ill intent. Melody moves through the ensemble, interrupted by gusts. Finally, when the low flutes take over, the threat is more immediate and hope descends with the tempo and pitch. 
Capriciously, another whirlwind begins at that low point and ascends, moving faster and higher until it resolves into the second movement, Zephyr, where warmth and lightness give us refreshment.
