Scherzo from Symphony in C by Georges Bizet, arranged for Bassoon Choir by Matt Johnston. Despite being composed in the mid-1800’s, this symphony was never performed during Bizet’s lifetime and received its premiere in 1936. Since then, it has become a cornerstone of the orchestral repertoire and is one of his most popular works. For this arrangement for bassoon ensemble, the entire movement was transposed down a whole-step to better suit the range of the instrument, thus, it is not compatible with the existing arrangement for clarinet choir.

Instrumentation:

  • 8 Bassoons
  • Contrabassoon (optional, doubles Bassoon 8)
