Schumann (arr. Lowe) - "Die gute Nacht, die ich dir sage" for Bassoon
Die gute Nacht, die ich dir sage by Clara Schumann, arranged for bassoon and string quartet by Shannon Lowe. Clara Wieck Schumann was one of the most prominent musical figures of the early Romantic Era. Die gute nacht, die ich dir sage was intended to be part of a joint composition of lieder published by Robert and Clara Schumann. However, it did not make it into the final collection, and now stands alone. Originally written for voice and piano, this arrangement of Clara Schumann’s lied features the bassoon, in place of the vocalist with a string quartet accompaniment. The text, from a poem by Friedrich Rückert, has the narrator bidding his/her loved one good night and implying that an angel above will pass the well-wishes of a good night between the dear friends.
