Baxter - A Jagged Path for Wind Quintet and Piano - CM226
A Jagged Path for Wind Quintet and Piano by Garth Baxter. A rhythmically driving piece, based on two themes from Baxter’s opera Lily. The beginning and ending sections are based on the orchestral part in the opening of Act I, Scene 3. There is a theme that is introduced about midway through the work that uses a short melodic idea from Act II, Scene 1. This work, as in most of Baxter’s chamber pieces, treats each instrument as an equal partner. The melodic material is constantly moving between the ensemble members.
