Ernesto Köhler - The Shepherd's Idyl (Hirten-Idylle), Op. 58 for Flute and Piano, edited by Ervin Monroe. Italian flutist and composer of German descent Ernesto Köhler was born in Modeno, Italy in 1849 and died in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1907. He studied flute with his father and quickly became an accomplished musician, receiving appointment to the position of first flute player in the local court orchestra. He eventually moved to St. Petersburg, Russia, to become the principal flutist in the Imperial Orchestra in 1871. His compositions include an opera, several ballets, and numerous works for flute, such as this charming piece, The Shepherd's Idyl
