Gaubert - Sonata No. 1 for Flute and Piano - MEG151
This edition is a reprint of the 1922 publication of Philippe Gaubert's Sonata No. 1 (Première Sonate) for Flute and Piano. Gaubert’s first flute sonata was written in 1918, the year after he returned from fighting in World War I. Gaubert spent much of 1918 touring through Canada and the United States as the first flutist of the Orchestre de la Société des concerts du Conservatoire, though it is unknown whether the Première Sonate (originally Sonate) was actually written while in North America or Europe. This period of time touring was the most compositionally productive of Gaubert’s life, as it was the year he composed eleven of his sixteen flute works.
Measure and rehearsal numbers have been added in addition to a brief foreward, making this edition much more rehearsal friendly than any other version out there. In three movements: Modéré, Lent, and Allegro moderato.
