Ken Benshoof's Song of Twenty Shadows was originally composed for the Kronos Quartet and violist Hank Dutt following the passing of his companion Kevin Freeman. From the composer: "This piece which is about loss, grief, acceptance and healing. Two solo viola passages contain various shapes of anguish. Cello and violins provide consolation, compassion and support in a struggle for resolution. In the end, the viola is again alone with elements from the beginning transformed and distilled."
