Originally for solo piano, the four Opus 90 impromptus were written in the autumn of 1827, late in Schubert’s life. This flute edition of the beautiful third impromptu evokes the ending of a prayer written by Schubert: “Almighty God, plunge me in the waters of Lethe, make me another man, more vigorous and courageous.”
