Jeroen Malaise (°1971, Antwerp, Belgium) is a pianist-composer and teacher at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp. He focuses mainly on the contemporary music experience and has a fascination for various traditions and different forms of improvisation. Playing several keyboard instruments from an early age (including clavichord, harpsichord and piano), he studied with Jan Vermeulen, Jacques Detiège, Remy Syrier, Wim Henderickx, Luc Van Hove and graduated  master and bachelor degrees with the highest and great distinctions for piano, harpsichord and composition. He took lessons in baroque and classical improvisation with Ewald Demeyere and in jazz piano with Christoph Erbstösser.

​Jeroen has performed with various productions in most European countries and several continents, and was a guest at Beijing Music Festival, Royal Opera House London, National Arts Center Ottawa, Wiener Konzerthaus, Cage Festival Amsterdam, Ligeti Festival Amsterdam, RomaEurope festival, Kunming Spring Festival, Les Coups de Theâtre Montreal, etc. He has won various national and international awards. 

He has created projects such as Cobane Collective and Congo Echoes that explore connections between musical styles from Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

In 2020 his first solo album with his own compositions was released by Et’cetera Records, entitled Keyboard Works Part 1.

​Jeroen works as a teacher and researcher at the Conservatoire of Antwerp. He teaches improvisation and practical harmony to the students of the piano department, and he supervises artistic graduation projects for master’s students. He teaches piano at the Music Academy Borgerhout.

As a researcher, Jeroen focuses particularly on The Art of Preluding.

He is ambassador for the Pleyel Concert Grand piano 1884 at the Vleeshuis Museum Antwerp.
