I’m a composer and sound-artist based in Manchester, England. I am Professor of Music and Dean of the School of Creative and Performing Arts. at Liverpool Hope University.  I’ve been fascinated by the emotional, psychological and expressive power of music and sound for as long as I can remember.

I have composed for a wide variety of media: solo instrumental; chamber; orchestral; vocal and electroacoustic/sound installation works.  I’ve been privileged to have had performances of my work in Brazil, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Iceland, Italy, Lithuania, Spain, Switzerland, UK, Ukraine, Uruguay and the USA – working with some notable artists and institutions along the way including: the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra’s Ensemble 10/10; BBC Philharmonic Orchestra; Clark Rundell; Michael Seal; Roberto Fabbriciani; Rohan de Saram; Die Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart; Scottish Opera; Tempo Reale; Das Experimentalstudio der Heinrich Strobel Stiftung, Rarescale, Columbia College Chicago, Conservatorio di Bologna, CCMIX/UPIC Studios (Paris, France).

I remain captivated by the unifying communicative capacity of musical syntax across all genres and histories.   Many of my works combine traditional acoustic instruments and voices with live, interactive electronics – seeking to create unified musical works that possess endless interpretative possibilities for the performer and listener.
