Leroy Osmon (b. 1948)
Leroy Osmon is an internationally-known composer who is presently living in Mexico. His published compositions number more than 120 and are published by ALRY Publications, RBC Publications (JW Pepper), TRN Music, Southern Music Company (Hal Leonard), Peer Music (NY), Tuba Euphonium Press, and G&M Publications of London.
Osmon receives commissions for all music genres; he has received the ASCAP Standard Music Award for Composition more than 25 times and the Medallion La Ville De Contrexéville (France) twice.
His band and chamber works have been performed at every major music conference in the United States as well as in Europe, Australia, Japan, Israel, India and Mexico. His music has been performed at the prestigious Midwest International Music Clinic in Chicago every year for more than two decades. Leroy Osmon was one of five composers selected to have their music studied and presented at the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles’ 1988 conference in Manchester, England. Paula Crider, then University of Texas director, presented his Symphony for Winds and Percussion at the WASBE conference. In 2004, Osmon received two Grammy List nominations (“Best Classical Performance” by a small ensemble and “Best Classical Album”), and in 2008 “The Music of Leroy Osmon, Vol. IV” received a Grammy List nomination for “Best Classical Album.” Vol. VI received 3 Grammy List Nominations for “Best Classical Album”, Best New Composition for both The Morris Suite and Symphony No. 4.
In 2006, Leroy Osmon received both a Pulitzer Prize nomination and a Grawemeyer Award nomination for Zeraim from the Book of Ruth for Soprano and Chamber Ensemble. In addition to the 2006 nomination, in 2020 Leroy Osmon received his second Pulitzer Prize Nomination for Charuhas: Sinfonia Concertante for 10 Musicians.
