Mumulides, Miltos
In the early stages of his career Miltos Mumulides had the opportunity to work with such conductors as Bernstein, Abbado, Dorati, Bamert in the E.C.Y. Orchestra with which he toured extensively in Europe as well as in Japan.
Miltos received an advanced diploma with high distinction in Belgium from the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp (Magna cum laude), studies in the University for the Arts Rotterdam and a Master’s Degree in Music at the Erasmus Hogeschool Brussels. From 1987-92 he was a solo clarinetist in the West Vlaamse Orchestra in Brugge, Belgium.
In 1990 Miltos received his first international recognition, performing the trio “Homage to Chagall'' by J. Dorfman with cellist M. Drobinsky and the composer at the piano. This was the first public performance of this piece in Paris, and Miltos was acclaimed by critics for his musicality, beautiful sound, and stunning technique. Since than Mr. Mumulides has built his reputation as an excellent chamber music player, having performed with various chamber ensembles such as the Quartet Danieli, the Jerusalem String Quartet, I Fiamminghi and in recital with pianists J.M.Luisada, R.Groslot, D.Blumenthal, El.Guilels, violinist Nigel Kennedy, Rudolf Werthen, and with the great Clarinetist W.Boeykens.
Miltos also created his own chamber group ''Phoenix'' which received a first prize for chamber music at the 1990 Alex de Vries International Music Festival.
Since 1992, he has been the solo clarinetist in the New Chamber Orchestra of Cologne with whom he has toured throughout Europe, Japan, N.Z, Australia, UK, Canada, Brazil, USA, Singapore, Hong Kong and others.
In 2019 he successfully toured the ten most important cultural capitals of China.
As a soloist Miltos has performed in Greece with the Athens and Thessaloniki State Orchestras under the batons of Baltas, Karitinos, Simeonides, Fidedzis, Trikolidis, E.Saul, F.Forget and abroad with the Royal Flemish Opera Orchestra, the Beethoven Academy, I Fiamminghi (Belgium), the New Philharmonic of Cologne, Melbourne Soloists, Antwerpen Sinfonietta, Musique Royale de la Force Aérienne (Brussels) and the St. Petersburg Chamber Orchestra.
His debut with the Mozart Clarinet Concerto was received with great acclaim by audiences and critics alike in venues including the Kölner Philharmonie, Musikhalle/Hamburg, De Glokke/Bremen, Staatstheater/Stuttgart, Tonhalle/Düsseldorf, Concertgebouw/Amsterdam, Gewandhaus/Leipzig, Gasteig/München, Palais des Beaux-Arts/Brussels and the Sidney Opera House.
Miltos has given master classes and lectures internationally: in Christchurch (NZ), Antwerp - De Singel (Belgium), in Germany at the International Music festival of Estenfeld (Würzburg), in Singapore at NAFA (Academy of Fine Arts), in Malaysia-Kuching Sarawak, in the University of Macedonia – Master class for circular breathing, at Amadeus International School of Music in Vienna, at Gnessin Russian Academy in Moscow, In Nanjing Art Center, China and many cities in Greece.
Mr. Mumulides has performed on television and radio broadcasts for WDR, ZDF, VARA, BRT, ΕΡΤ, BTV, RAI, ORF, RTS, SMG- Shanghai TV and NHK-Japan TV.
His recordings include Labels- Berlin Stasch Vinyl and Naxos- Classical CDs with: Mozart, Weber – Quintets, Mozart - Clarinet Concerto. Beethoven – Septet, Rossini –Variations, Beethoven – Variations (arr. for Clarinet and Str. Orchestra), Glazunov – Oriental Reverie, Verdi-Rigoletto/Paraphrase and various pieces for clarinet and piano.
His own compositions include music for theatre, different ensembles, solo pieces for clarinet as well as more than hundred arrangements of various styles of music from classical to jazz. At present Mr. Mumulides is associate Professor at the University of Macedonia in the Department of Music Sciences and Art.
