His music reflects a profound commitment to advocacy through art, often illuminating overlooked or urgent human rights issues.

A signature work, Mass for the Oppressed, is a striking setting of the Mass Ordinary featuring interpolated texts by his brother Evan Eads and a Credo adapted from the diary of Pope Francis. The piece was composed to raise awareness and public support for the Fairbanks Four—four Indigenous men from Eads’ hometown in Alaska who were wrongfully imprisoned for eighteen years. Continuing this thread of advocacy, his cantata …from which your laughter rises, written for the mothers of the Fairbanks Four, was performed to critical acclaim alongside Haydn’s Stabat Mater.

For more information on Dr. Eads and his compositions, please visit http://www.emersoneads.com/

Dr. Emerson Eads's particularly lush, contemporary tonal language brings the flute choir to life in the three movements of his tone poem Summer Tern. Some of these themes are transformed and appear later in the Epilogue. The following movement, "Edna," was written in homage to Edna St. Vincent Millay and her poem "The Concert." This section is through-composed, and uses the poem's structure and words as musical inspiration- the flute's lines expressing the words, the pianist acting as accompanist to a "singer." You could literally read the poem whilst listening to the flute's lines and imagine the flute singing the words. Edna is followed by a tranquil Meditation. The final movement, Psalm (or Epilogue), seeks to find closure to The Concert. Edna tells us at the end of The Concert, that "I will come back to you, I swear I will; And you will know me still. I shall be only a little taller, Than when I went." So the final movement tells the story of the return. Both flute and pianist attempt to find their way, sometimes losing the tonality of the other, but eventually "singing" together the secondary theme.'
