Hans Aerts (°1958) studied  at the conservatory of Antwerp (clarinet), the conservatory of Brussels (counterpoint and fugue) and the Lemmens Institute in Leuven (composition). His oeuvre consists of over 100 pieces for just about any instrumental line up. Many of these pieces are specifically written to be used in music education.

Apart from his works winning the Cantabile contest for composition three times, he has already become laureate of the Contest for composition ‘Guido Gezelle’ held by the city of Roeselare (1999), the I.S.M.E. contest (2003) and the National choir composition contest (2007). He has written obligatory pieces for the National Music Contest of the Gemeentekrediet and Axion Classics for the disciplines harp, violin and woodwinds. In 2012 he received first price for his work ‘Country Scenes’ in the composition contest organized by the Fryske Fanfare Festival.

In his work Hans Aerts seeks to create a clear form and an alluring melodical and harmonical style. Hans Aerts lives and works in Turnhout (Belgium), where he is associated with the city’s musical academy.
